I woke up this morning thinking, “I don’t have to if I don’t want to.”

(If I knew how to put a bubble thought over my head, I would!)

Anyway, yesterday I planned to fix biscuits and gravy for breakfast this morning but it’s a lot of work. So when I woke up, I thought, I don’t have to. But then I remembered my tomatoes are just getting ripe, and they’re the best with B & G. And right after that, Mama spoke up.

This is Mama’s wedding picture. I wasn’t there the day she married. (duh) This is how I remember her most.

She’s been in heaven since 1991, but I still hear her from time to time, and this morning was one of those times. Mama had six children, and she got up every morning of the world, except Sunday morning, and fixed a huge breakfast. On Sundays we had cereal and donuts or coffee cake or something else as yummy.

So, since I picked a ripe tomato yesterday, she told me I really should do what I’d planned and fix a breakfast to go with it. No matter how tired I am.  It wouldn’t be that hard.  After all, just begun is almost done.

Naturally, I fixed Mama’s homemade biscuits, bacon, and gravy. And, of course, tomatoes!

So that set me up to have company for breakfast. Memories flooded in. A deep breath brought back the fragrance that filled the house when Mama made breakfast each morning. The times I called Dad to ask how hot an oven to use when I couldn’t find Mama’s recipe. And he knew!

The gazillion times I fixed B & G for Gary and my boys.

And yes, that’s the grin I usually received when I put Gary’s plate in front of him.

My neighbor, Suezan, when she asked for my biscuit recipe, then couldn’t believe it didn’t have any fat in it.. I wish I  had a picture of Suezan.

All those people are in heaven having breakfast with Jesus this morning, and I’ll bet the biscuits are perfect.

These are Mama’s breakfast recipes. They were published in the Cleveland American Newspaper a while back. A long while back. 🙂

Questions:

1- Do you eat breakfast?

2- Did your mama feed you breakfast?

3- Do you think we’ll eat breakfast in heaven?
